During this visit, you get to know the work of an alderwoman in Antwerp. Erica Caluwaerts is responsible for economy, work, innovation, industry, digitisation, marketing and communication, public domain and litigation. Erica will explain to us about what steps the city of Antwerp is taking in terms of digital inclusion, and how they contribute to lowering the inactivity rate.
Antwerp continues to focus on safe access to digital services and the city wants to promote digital skills among digitally vulnerable target groups, so that they can also participate digitally. The city itself takes initiatives, but it also supports other organisations that roll out projects in the context of e-inclusion.
The aim is a win-win for all Antwerp residents, from entrepreneurs to job seekers. As a city, they cannot do this alone and that is why they work together with many partners.
The Flemish Service for Employment and Vocational Training (VDAB) is of course an important partner. In January 2021, the city renewed a cooperation agreement with VDAB. These are their three joint core ambitions:
- The Antwerp employment rate rises from 64.2% to 70%. This means about 20,000 Antwerp residents will be working extra in 2025, compared to 2019.
- The Great Connection and the large industrial sites are an engine for raising the employment rate in Antwerp. Every year, Oosterweelyards offer job opportunities to 180 Antwerp job seekers.
- We will activate 6,000 low-skilled young people to work by 2025.

The holder of the badge will have worked either on their own or in a small group to reflect on the questions:
- how the visit has gone;
- what has been learned;
- how to use this in your work;
- how else to use it (think about e.g. benefit for society).
The questions are designed to optimise generative learning: they are not just about what the participant has learnt but also how they can use the learning in their work and personal life.
This badge has been issued by a facilitator of the study visit.
